Ferragosto è alle porte e moltissimi Lombardi e buona parte del nord è partita per le vacanze. Ma per chi resta? Non c’è problema! Ci sono tantissimi posti da visitare e noi vi consigliamo Soncino in provincia di Cremona. Molti storici fanno risalire la nascita di Soncino in età medievale e furono i Goti(popolazione proveniente dall’attuale Germania) ad erigere un primo insediamento e la leggenda dice che nella lingua dei goti Soncino significasse ” Re delle Acque”, per via della sua posizione a ridosso del fiume Oglio. Soncino divenne nel 1118 “borgo franco”. Questo diede una certa importanza alla città e ne conseguì un aumento della popolazione dovuto anche all’aumento dei commerci. Fu Boso da Guera che nel XIII secolo rimise a posto la vecchia rocca fortificandola e recinse l’intera città con mura difensive. Furono poi gli Sforza tra la metà del 400 alla metà del 500 a renderla ancora più protetta con il rifacimento di tutte le mura difensive e la ricostruzione della rocca. Soncino aveva una popolazione ebraica molto influente. Qui infatti fu stampata la prima bibbia in questa lingua proprio da una di queste famiglie e il libro prese proprio il nome di Soncino. Con l’avvento degli spagnoli, la città perse d’importanza. Purtroppo gli austriaci nei primi anni deli’800 fecero abbattere le 4 porte della città.
Tantissime sono le cose da vedere a Soncino ad iniziare dalla sua fortezza ancora intatta del XV secolo, il palazzo comunale, la casa degli stampatori dove appunto venne stampata la bibbia in ebraico, la pieve di Santa Maria Assunta del XII secolo, la chiesa di San Giacomo e quella di Santa Maria delle Grazie del XV secolo. A ferragosto però non bisogna dimenticare che Soncino ospita una bellissima manifestazione: Soncino ’50 Rock Beer Party, Festa in musica, birra, moda e Rock’n’ Roll. Inizia tutto alle 18. Ricordiamo che a Ferragosto il castello resterà aperto dalle 10 alle 13 e dalle 15 alle 19.
Ferragosto (the August 15th) is upon us and many Lombards and a good part of the north Italy have left for the holidays. But who does it stay for? No problem! There are many places to visit and we recommend Soncino in the province of Cremona. Many historians trace the birth of Soncino back to the Middle Ages and it was the Goths (population from present-day Germany) who built a first settlement and the legend says that in the language of the Goths Soncino meant “King of the Waters”, due to its position close to the Oglio river. Soncino became in 1118 a “Frankish village”. This gave a certain importance to the city and consequently an increase in population also due to the increase in trade. It was Boso da Guera who in the thirteenth century restored the old fortress fortifying it and enclosing the entire city with defensive walls. It was the Sforza family between the mid-15th century and the mid-16th who made it even more protected with the rebuilding of all the defensive walls and the reconstruction of the fortress. Soncino had a very influential Jewish population. Here, in fact, the first bible in this language was printed by one of these families and the book took the name of Soncino. With the advent of the Spaniards, the city lost its importance. Unfortunately the Austrians in the early 19th century had the 4 gates of the city demolished.
There are many things to see in Soncino starting from its still intact 15th century fortress, the town hall, the printers’ house where the Hebrew bible was printed, the 12th century parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, the church of San Giacomo and that of Santa Maria delle Grazie from the 15th century. In mid-August, however, we must not forget that Soncino hosts a beautiful event: Soncino ’50 Rock Beer Party, a party in music, beer, fashion and Rock’n ‘Roll. It all starts at 6pm. We remind you that on August 15th the castle will be open from 10am to 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm.
