Solomnum era il nome latino dato dai romani a questo luogo. I primi documenti che testimoniano la sua esistenza risalgono al 796.
Nel Medio Evo Saronno, posto al centro delle vie che collegavano Milano a Lugano e fu un importante crocevia per i commerci. Fu poi la famiglia Visconti a fortificarla con una cinta muraria poi smantellate.
Durante la sua storia Saronno è sempre stata al centro di avvicendamenti tra i vari ducati e governi. Da Milano agli spagnoli, dagli austriaci ai francesi fino al regno d’Italia.
Dal 1850 la città inizia a cambiare volto e passò repentinamente da una economia agricoltura a quella economica.
Aziende famosissime sorsero in questa città, e per quelle conosciuta nel mondo come ad esempio la Isotta Fraschini e il famoso amaretto.
Tra i luoghi di interesse bisogna ricordare Casa Morandi, il museo della ceramica, il museo delle industrie e del lavoro saronnese. Presenti molti edifici religiosi di notevole bellezza come il Santuario della Beata Vergine dei Miracoli. Un luogo assolutamente da visitare. Qui in basso il video che ve lo presenta.
